Teacher reading to kids

Make reading, talking and writing FUN!

  • Read with your child 20 minutes per day.

  • Discuss the stories with your children. Include follow-up questions and actively listen to their response.

  • Sing songs or recite nursery rhymes; play rhyming and riddle games.

  • Encourage children to write and draw daily.

  • Support our educators and students.

  • Volunteer to be an Elementary Literacy reading mentor

  • Find out how you or your company/organization can become a PALS (Partners Assisting Local School) Partner and help students to strengthen their literacy skills.

  • Talk to your local school or daycare centre about how you can help.

  • Children need books in their hands!

    • Donate to libraries, childcare centres, recreation centres, and any place that children gather.

    • Make a donation to BCAPI for Books Books Books.  It’s a program led by Achieve Literacy that puts quality, age-appropriate books in the homes of children (aged 0 to 8) who live in Saint John’s low-income neighbourhoods.

  • Hold a literacy fundraiser for a neighbourhood, school or community organization.
